U-889 and her ''Zwiebel" structure.

As far as I know U-889 was the only U-boat to have the ''Zwiebel" structure at the point of her bow.
It was an sound listening device with 15 crystal receivers used on a 60 degree angle when the boat
was using her Schnorchel.

The ''Balkon-Gerat'' for the ''GHG''sound locating equipment.This ''Balkon-Gerat contains  48 sound receivers and is located in the front of her keel.U-190 had also this ''Balkon Gerat''.




FuMB 26 Tunis radar.

To the left can be seen the FuMB Ant 3 BALI 1 Rundipol antenna mounted on the periscoop housing.
This was hooked up to the FuMB 28 NAXOS ZM 4 radar detector.At the right can be seen the Direction Finder Loop.




FuMB 26 Tunis Radar detector was not waterproof and had to mounted when the boat surfaced.
